It's extraordinary!

I acknowledge this is an odd title during an odd time for the world. But really, it’s all quite extraordinary. My experience is this…

The world is encountering sickness and fear, each feeding off of the other. It’s extraordinary. The world is also experiencing connection, kindness, and space. It’s truly extraordinary. I walk through my neighborhood, exchanging hellos and friendly waves—strangers greeting strangers because we’re all in this together. We’re all connected. Less cars are on the street. More people are in nature. A conscientiousness has arisen over the use of resources and supporting local businesses and those in greater need. Humor and kindness abound via texts, social media, and community touchpoints. We’re pacing ourselves, breathing, recognizing the good things we do have, and thinking of others. It took this sickness and fear for me to get my neighbors’ cell numbers so that we can all be in touch and support each other. We now long for a chance to gather for a good old-fashioned block party, whereas before we hurried on our way, too busy for others.

“Good” or “bad,” this is not ordinary; it’s extraordinary. We’re being pushed somewhere new and unknown. Despite “social distancing” I feel more connected to my fellow humans. I say we keep up the compassion and connection. It’s who we are and how we thrive.
